How Not to Be an A-hole When…

…Being A Person

In the few months that I’ve been running this site, I’ve offered advice on a variety of topics. Some have been fairly mundane; others have been more serious.

In addition to these responses, I’ve posted weekly essays. Sometimes they’re frivolous; other times they are deadly serious. Just last week I unveiled the new feature “Asshole Hall of Fame.”

The point of this site is to provide people with some tips to help them be better humans. I set a pretty low bar — not being an asshole — and sometimes aim a little higher, offering advice that goes beyond the bare minimum of decency.

Which brings me to today’s brief essay, in which I’d like to point out a very obvious measure of the bare minimum of decency: denouncing neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

This should not be hard.

This should not be controversial.

This should not be something that people have to hope the leaders of their nation can do without prompting.

And yet here we are, in the U.S., in 2017, where for some people, this seems to be up for debate. So tonight, I just wanted to take a quick moment to meet the absolute bare minimum of human decency and say this, on this small piece of the internet that I control: fuck neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and their apologists.
